Mellowing out

I have been making some new jewelry this week, and it feels so good to let my mind wander and be creative instead of always having to be 'on' like I am at work. Being project manager kind of sucks. A lot. I admit, the idea of being in charge and deciding how the rollout would work was very appealing to my control-freaky side, but I didn't take into account the fact that something is always going to go wrong and when it does, it's always the project manager's fault. That's all I'll say about that because I'm so tired of writing about work, but don't worry Mom, it was a very little thing and I only got a little crap for it...I'm still very gainfully employed :)
William comes back to work tomorrow...yay! I hope he doesn't read this and get a big head. I just missed you, jackass. Anyway, I am looking forward to some good stories from his trip...hopefully better than the story about him seeing this guy at LAX.
I finally heard from my friend Kamal from Turner and it was absolutely (no joke) the highlight of my week! Lucky bastard gets to work with all of the guys from Adult Swim. I totally miss that feeling when I used to see something on one of the Turner networks or produced by Warner Bros or something and for a second I would feel like my work mattered...like I was connected to something bigger than myself. Hey, I don't have religion..give me a break!

Okay, enough random bullshit. Have a good night folks.

A tiny vacation...

So what's new? I've been pretty hyper-focused on work lately, which is pretty obvious if you have read any of the past few entries. Luckily I feel that dying down a bit. I haven't heard from my obnoxious iWebtool client for the past 6 hours or so and it feels like the best damn vacation I have ever had. I hope she keeps up the non-communication. I, for one, will not miss her one bit when this whole crappy project is over. She has made the past few days of my working life a living hell. And I don't say that lightly...I have had problem clients before, but she just gets under my skin and pushes my buttons and it is a real struggle sometimes to keep my composure and remain polite when all I want to do is give in and snap at her.

I wish I could say there were more exciting things going on in my life. Oh, I finished the last Harry Potter book..that was pretty awesome. I enjoyed it very very much. I read about 80% of it all day Saturday, then I read the rest on Sunday night. It is such a relief to have finished it because now I don't have to worry about avoiding spoilers all over the place.

Okay, that's all for now...I can't think of a damn thing to write about. Peace out!

Man, when I'm right, I'm right!

This week has seriously sucked. I feel drained, exhausted, short-tempered, frustrated, and I am just this side of bursting into tears on a moment's notice.

The only thing I am happy about at this moment is that I don't have to coordinate the
(unnamed electronic evidence software)* rollout over the weekend. I still have to do (unnamed web-based document review tool)* because the whiny client I was dealing with last week has decided to pull all of her data out of the database and go with another vendor. I feel a little responsible for this, which sucks, because I'm the database administrator and I made some fairly minor but frustrating mistakes last week. I'm pretty sure, though, that the big reason they are pulling their data and running is that our production department accidentally left some confidential documents in some data we delivered to their opposing counsel and potentially screwed up their case. So, not my doing at all, which is good, but I still can't help but feel like a screwup when I get anywhere near this client, so I will be very glad to be rid of them. I will be working all weekend to pull their data from the database and get it delivered to them on a hard drive. I'm still on call all weekend too. Blech.

My friend William will be at
(unnamed web-based document review tool) training next week, which is awesome because he can then help me administer the database, but it also sucks because he won't be here and therefore my week will be exactly 90% less fun. It's true...I did the math. Hopefully I will be so busy with the (unnamed electronic evidence software) rollout that I won't be bored, but it sure as hell won't be fun.

Okay, enough grousing for now. Next time I write, I promise I will be all shiny and happy :)

*I realized that it may not be a great thing to work for lawyers and air their dirty laundry on this site, so I'm removing all trace of the actual names of the software I use and the company I work for. If you know me well enough you already know what I'm talking about anyway.
